The game was started well for the Vets and they should have taken the lead on a few occasions, but the deadlock was broken when Chris Freestone curled a free kick from 25 yards into the top corner.
The second goal was quick coming when a free kick was floated in by James Jepson and the ball found its way to Rob Gill who neatly finished but the goals was harshly ruled out for off side. Basford stayed on the front foot and scored on the next attack when Richard Ranshaw went through one on one and scored to take the half time score to 2-0.
The second half was all Basford and fitness and squad depth was a massive bonus with the introduction to Steve Bull, Robbie Powell, Damien Rennick’s and Mark Clark, but with all their possession it took another 25 yard free kick from James Jepson to seal the 3-0 victory.
Basford United Community 1-1 Burton Joyce
Ewan Hill gave Community a first half lead with a fine finish, but Burton Joyce put on the pressure on the second half and this eventually paid off with Jacob Hopper firing home the leveler.
All in all, a draw was a fair result between two teams who remain locked together on points.
Arnold Town 3-5 Basford United Under 15s Sat
The goal sparked the team into life with great work from the midfield trio of Karim Iqbal, Chase Tipton-Watson and Liam Sansum bringing us back into the game, resulting in a great strike from Karim Iqbal levelling the scores.
With continuing pressure from a number of great corners swung in from Liam Sansum, Decree Okoli was able to head in another to take us into the lead 2-1 from this point it was one way traffic.
On the 30 minute mark there was some great passing work between Liam Sansum and Karim Iqbal, Karim Iqbal was then fouled just outside the penalty area resulting in him having to leave the field of play with a knee injury.
The resulting free kick taken by Chase Watson - Tipton rifled into the top left hand corner of the net taking us into a 3-1 lead. Shortly after Rahim Iqbal launched a free kick just inside the oppositions half, this again sailed into the top corner leaving the opposition keeper stranded and giving us a healthy 4-1 lead going into half time.
The second half started as the first half had, with Basford resting on their laurels.
This in turn resulted in two quick defence errors with players trying to walk the ball out of the penalty allowing Arnold two goals to make it 4-3, with some nervous minutes and further Arnold chances, which resulted in help from the cross bar and two great saves from Ryan Lloyd. Basford then started to defend again in their more trusted way.
We were able to then start to control the match again and created chances which were spurned. Angelo Tambini following up from a Junior Wallace shot fired into the net and killed off the Arnold Town spirit and come back making the last 10 minutes uneventful.
Still top of the league but with two games to go, it is in our own hands to ensure we stay there and we are looking forward to playing West Bridgford Santos next week.
Ruddington Colts 2-3 Basford United Community Trees U13
Four on the bounce!
The Trees were away at Ruddington. Our opposition were unbeaten this year so we knew the game would be tough. Trees started well with Woody playing out from the back, making some good saves and being vocal as the captain.
The back four did great, winning headers and being first to must things throughout. Well done to Orlando, Bright, Mckenzie & Kesharn. The midfield worked hard to win most of their battles. Michael and Riley did superb in the middle of the park, strong on the ball, playing nice football.
Jepthe, Faris and Oyin worked hard further forward, especially Oyin on his debut showing great work rate. Tyrelle had such an unselfish game playing some great passes.
The lads off the bench, JD, Marley & Jayden-Samuel especially did superb.
We scored first after a wicked cross was put in by Jayden-Samuel which the keeper couldn't hold on to, Oyin followed it in for a goal on his full debut, 1-0 to the Trees.
5 minutes later, Tyrelle was unselfish and laid off Jayden-Samuel to smash home hist 1st of the game into the top corner, 2-0.
Not long before half-time Ruddington shown their quality and came back into the game with a well worked move, 2-1.
Second half began, some great football led to Tyrelle playing a fantastic ball through the back line, Jayden-Samuel made a great run and finished well into the bottom corner, 3-1.
We had the opportunity to go another goal up from the penalty spot but the keeper stopped Jayden-Samuel from getting his hat-trick with a good save.
Everyone was playing good football and we were a pleasure to watch. Mckenzie and Oyin did great on their full debuts.
Ruddington never gave up and got another goal back through determination, 3-2.
We defended well towards the end though and showed how great we can be at the back.
Man of the match could have been a few of the lads. It has to go to Jayden-Samuel for his impact from the bench, 2 goals and an assist.
“Well done Trees, we go again next week in the semi-finals of the cup.” - Coach Alex and Deji.
Ernehale Colts 0-4 Basford United U9
The lads played really well as a unit and manager Lee Rowlett-franks couldn't be any prouder of the lad’s performance.
