Basford United Veterans remain unbeaten after beating Redhill 8-3 with goals from Chris Freestone 3, Mark Brookes, Nigel Beer, Damien Rennicks, Adam Beazley and Franny Green.
The Vets were 5-0 up at half time but let Redhill into the game the second half but still finished off a good side.
Basford United Community suffered their first defeat of the season in the Notts Senior League, going down 1-0 at Southwell City Reserves.
The team were weakened by first team calls, did enough to deserve a share of the points, but lost out to the only goal of the game.
Basford United Under 18 Saturday beat Babworth Rovers 6-1 to continue their great start to the season making it 6 wins out of 6.
Some great football saw the home side hit 3 before half time and another 3 after the break. Goals from M Walters (2), K Latif (2), D Evans and O Bankole.
Basford Saturday Under 16 beat Mansfield Town 2-1 to make it five wins from five games as they start the new season in Division 1 in style.
The game was played in blizzard conditions, the wind playing a massive part and at times ruining the game.
Having gone a goal down in the first half against the wind, Basford dominated the second.
Chances come and went, and the side should have been home and dry. Jeremiah Ogie and Reece Gatland scored to secure the points.
The team travel to Eastwood Town next Saturday.
Basford United Under 15s went down 7-1 at home to Shifnall Harriers in the Midland Junior Premier League.
Basford carried on with their 3-5-2 formation and in the first half played probably their best football of the season so far. Passing the ball around, creating a couple of half chances and looking very confident, dominating possession.
But, football is about taking your chances and that’s exactly what Shifnall did, scoring 2 goals against the run of play in the first half, the first one, in the melee, causing an injury to the in form Alex in goal. He played on for the rest of the half, even making a lovely save that was dropping into the top right corner. The injury was far worse than we first thought.
The second half started and Shifnal immediately had an attack, scoring past Alex straight away, and we could see he needed to come off (it turned out to be torn ligaments in his finger and out for 4 weeks).
On came Zach in goal who did a superb job, but the lads heads had gone down. Shifnal did really well to turn the screw when Basford were down and scored another 4 goals in the half, with just the one reply by Ryan with a lovely half volley.
The scoreline didn’t really reflect the first half performance, but a game is 80 minutes and they lost their way in the second, which we will put right next week.
The boys will learn from this, and hopefully, take that horrible losing feeling, turning it into a positive and remembering it for this coming Saturdays game.
Basford Magpies Under 13s beat Wollaton Hall Arrows 2-0.
Yet another dominant performance from the Magpies, with 6 wins out of 6!
Most of the game was played in the opposition's half but they had set themselves up defensively which Basford found difficult to breakdown, the first half ended 0-0.
The second half started and the Magpies found their rhythm again with some great link up play and a shot on goal that found the back of the net from Tieron Smillie 1-0.
A fantastic curling cross in from the wing was met by a superb volley from Ricky Clark which made it 2-0 and puts him back at the top of the league table for goals scored, 12 out of 6 games. An all-round solid performance from all the lads.
Basford Under 13 Trees drew 2-2 with Clipstone Barca in a windy battle.
The Trees put in a great performance on a windy morning. They started a bit slow but the boys at the back did a great job. Especially the boys covering centre back, Kesharn and Bright. Nyle and Theirry started well as full backs too.
Trees took the lead when a good move lead to Jayden having a shot after being put through, keeper saved well but Marley was there to make it 1-0. They had a few chances to make it 2-0 but just before half time the wind helped Clipstone to get what was a deserved equaliser. 1-1 at half time.
Second half began and Basford were caught out but credit to Clipstone there was a great finish from the edge of the box from one of their boys. 1-2. Trees continued to play some great football, everyone all getting involved giving 100% in tough conditions.
Theirry took a free kick from the back which Tyrelle chased after, got bought down but a great advantage lead to an equaliser through Jayden who deserved a goal. 2-2.
Trees continued to apply the pressure, we got caught on the break but thanks to Woody he made a fantastic save to keep it level. Near the end Lovette came on and nearly scored the winner.
Coach Alex Barber commented: “Great football from all, Trees you were amazing working as a team and could've got more. A deserved draw though. Well done everyone.”
Man of the match today was Kesharn, who showed fantastic work rate in every position he played and sets the standard for everyone else.
Basford Ravens Under 13 drew 2-2 at Clipstone Colts.
A long journey up to Clipstone for our boys on Saturday morning to face a very strong Clipstone team that hadn’t dropped a point this year, we knew we would be in for a tough game with some boys making their debut and playing a year up.
Ravens conceded within the first five minutes, which sparked the team into playing some great football in awful conditions dominating the first half and being unlucky to go at half time only 2-1 up with goals from Kyle Vickers and Leo Almond.
The second half saw Clipstone start the quicker using the strong winds to their advantage, which the team managed to deal with until a deserved equaliser for Clipstone left us sharing the points.
Basford United under 9s lost to Newark 6-0.
Basford never gave up and had plenty of chances, the game was closer than what the result shows and Coach Lee Franks was proud of the team holding their heads high.
Mason Simpson put a man of the match performance in.
Basford Under 7s had an excellent 10-1 win over Ilkeston Under 7s.
A great game from start to finish Basford went out there for the win and achieved it in style.
A tremendous performance by the captain Oscar pulling off some great saves also Jefferson at the back was outstanding playing out from the back to the wingers Preston and Joe. They were playing really well not just scoring goals but also putting in a lot of assist to top goal scorer Devon who put in a brilliant display scoring a few himself.
Both subs came on Mason and Alfie and both made a real impact on the game scoring straight away.
A great result for the team against a very strong Ilkeston side.
