UPDATE: REMAYE CAMPBELL

Chris Munroe26 Jul 2023 - 13:01

First signs coming out are new striker Remay Campbell has avoided serious injury as X Rays confirm no ankle break.

United fans/ officials and players will no doubt be uplifted to hear that new signing striker Remay Campbell looks to have avoided a serious long length on the side lines as precautionary X- Rays have come back negative. The striker sustained his injury during last nights pre season friendly at home to Spalding United that ended 0-1. Campbells injury occurred on 32 minutes after a collision with Spalding defender Nathan Stainsfield in what looked an innocuous collision. Campbell was down for over 5 minutes before being taken to hospital. The full extent of the injury will be determined over the next few days but initial opinion is a severe ankle sprain. On the pitch both Basford and Spalding played out a good game settled on 60 minutes by Dan Sweeneys low effort for the visitors. For Basford Toby Ritzema gave a really good account in his 1st 60 minutes in a Basford shirt and also positive displays from full backs Matty Bowman and a left back trialist. Ben Starkie also returned and got 30 minutes and gave a lively display. Manager Steve Kittrick went with a 17 man squad for this game but it was more so due to holiday and injury absentees keeping up to 6 unavailable, however for the first time this preseason several got extended minutes and some a full 90 minutes.
Basford are next in action Saturday at home to North Ferriby 3pm kick off at Greenwich Avenue. Admission remains at £5/£3 and free for students and U16s
