United triump against local rivals

Chris Munroe11 Jan 2013 - 15:04

Basford recorded a good 3-0 victory away to local rivals Gadling MW yesterday. The goals were shared between Aidan Brady,Fabian Smith and Dan Jackson.

Despite a wretched run of form the miners were not expected to give up the points easily today in this local derby.Ex United forward Jazzy Westcarr lined up against his old team mates.
United continued to look rock solid defensively and again this gave us the platform to win the game. The opening goal on 31 mins was a well worked move, Theo Smith bursting forward squared for Adian Brady to keep his composure and pick his spot high past ex Basford keeper Lance Walker with a great finish. Given he had defenders in his line of vision this was a quality strike. Just before the half Westcarr could have brought the miners level as he was set up for a good chance but placed a tame effort wide. The miss proved crucial as United ruthlessly netted a 2nd just before the break. Good link up so midfielder Fabian Smith break forward into the box and latching onto a throughball pick his spot with a fine low strike past Walker. 2-0 at the break is not a position you would expect a team with 8 clean sheets out of the last 11 to lose and this was the case as Basford dominated the 2nd period with some excellent flowing football. Youngster Dan Jackson won a penalty on 49 min with a weaving run deep into the box that saw him impeded. Here is a 1st Martin Carruthers missed his 1st spot kick of the season although credit goes to Walker who guessed right and pulled off a fine parry. United needed a 3rd to kill the game and it finally arrived on 57 minutes.Again some fine link up saw youngster Jackson free in the box to pick his spot with a fine placed effort. After this it should have been a case of how many United could notch but credit to Gedling they kept battling to the end and keeper Walker was inspired as superb saves from a Fabian Smith piledriver and header from the same player, and Cashel Walters low effort were very good and kept the score respectable.
Excellent displays all over the park for United with full back David Boafo very good and the central half pairing of Martin Holt and Jack Davies dominate.
United are next in action next Sat at home to 5th place Aylestone park.

Basford reserves capped a fine day for the club as they consolidated at the top of the N.A.A division 1. John Manders and Ian Youngs outfit had far too much for nearest challengers Aspley and powered home with goals from Robbie England,Damien Rennicks, Dominica Clark and Jack Smith to seal an important victory again nearest challengers.

Finally i got glimpse of our under 12s yesterday morning who secured a 1-1 drawy in a Derby city league fixture, having now gone 4 games unbeaten the youngsters have come alongway from a tough start to the campaign.
