United record a fine victory at Dunkirk

Chris Munroe6 Apr 2015 - 17:55

Basford capped a fine 5 days making it 3 wins out of 3 with a very good victory away to Dunkirk at Lenton Lane.

Coming from behind United showed the necessary character to turn round a 0-1 deficit to lead 3-1 at the interval. 2nd period just 2 more goals shared between the teams but both were superb efforts.

The home side went in front on 20 minutes via a penalty award for handball that was coolly converted by Carl Spencer for 1-0 .

Basford though are made of far tougher stuff than in those early months of the season and turned the deficit into an advantage via 2 goals in 2 minutes.Ryan Whitehurst drew United level on 28 minutes with a fine strike after been set up by Tyrelle Shannon. Moments later Basford were in front as this time fine vision from Stuart Hendrie squared for Tyrelle Shannon to convert from 6 yards.

Dunkirk though continued to ask good questions and Saul Deeney had to be at his best on 37 min to claw a fine strike from Carl Spencer round the upright.

The save proved crucial as Basford swept up field to register a killer 3rd on 38 minutes. Stuart Hendrie despite having so much to do to control a high bouncing ball but held off defenders, to bury at the 2nd attempt and a 3-1 HT lead.

It is typical of the man that Lee Hendrie travelled back from his morning stint in London on Sky Sports and he registered the goal of the game on 60 minutes. His strike and vision from 25 yards (Main picture above ) was world class as he found the top corner with a wonder strike that beat the excellent Jake Wasn’t all ends up.

Dunkirk though continued to ask questions and Scott James hit a fine strike on 80 minutes to cut the deficit to 4-2 .

Basford played out the remaining minutes and even blooded another academy youngster in Robbie MacNicholas for his 1st team debut.

News filtering though of a loss for Coleshill Town at Kirby made this a very good day for Basford and sets the title requirements to 7 points out of 12 on offer from the remaining 4 games.

A big thanks again to our travelling contingent who continue to inspire the lads a very big following in the overall 162 gate today and we thank you very much for your continued support. In seasons gone by it was 1 man and a dog who travelled to Basford games but now very inspiring to see so many loyal suppporters cheering us on.

Basford will keep feet firmly on the ground as the focus now starts on another tough game Sat away to Quorn FC 3pm with this one being fairly local then hopefully we can continue to reap the benefits of good support.
