Needing to win the game to be sure of winning the league, Basford opened strongly and received the perfect start when Anton Robinson rounded the keeper to score after eight minutes.
Dan Jackson made it two after 25 minutes only for Parkgate to pull one back within minutes thanks to Curtis Wilkinson's blistering long range shot. Luke McKeag restored the two goal lead with a powerful header on 38 minutes and Jack Hodson made it 4-1 two minutes from the break, passing the ball expertly into the bottom corner of the net.
Five minutes into the second period Jackson got his second of the night with a well placed shot, then Kyle Keetley showed great presence of mind to lob the keeper from twenty yards. Hodson finished the scoring fifteen minutes from time with an excellent free kick that beat the wall and the home goalkeeper's despairing dive.
The team celebrated at the end, as well they might. To win the league in their first season in the competition is a great achievement of the players and the management team of Wayne Scott and Steve Hawley.
