Our Under 18s strolled into the next round of the FA Youth Cup with a 5-1 win at home to Lutterworth Athletic.

Captain for the night Wayde Hines opened the scoring in just the fourth minute before Tiernan Campbell pulled a goal back for the visitors. Our lead was restored at the break though thanks to Jericho Bonner’s strike.

The floodgates opened in the second half as Hines fired in his second before Rory Harrison got on the scoresheet. A fine night was then capped off as substitute Kiarne Nyemba rounded the ‘keeper and walked the ball over the line to give us the 5-1 win.

There was just one change from the side that beat Alfreton Town 7-1 one in the last round. George Sharman replaced the injured Mackenzie Rooney, as Hines took the captains armband.

We got off to the perfect start as we took the lead in just the fourth minute of the game. A Lutterworth corner was cleared to Hines, who beat several players with a good turn of pace before firing into the far corner of the net.

The lead was almost doubled just a minute later. The ball came to Jordan Haywood and he let fly from outside the area but was denied by a strong stop from Matt Hammond in the visitors’ net.

Up the other the visitors looked lively and were level when a mix up at the back allowed Campbell to put the ball into an empty net on 11 minutes. The visitors had the ball in the net again a few minutes later but it was ruled out for offside.

A mix up for Lutterworth then presented us with the chance to restore our advantage as Jacob Taylor ran through on goal but he was denied by the right leg of Hammond. We continued to create the better chances and Hines had a good opportunity for his second. The forward again picked the ball up inside his own half and burst into the area but this time his effort was just wide of the post. Just after that Sam Newell forced Hammond into another strong stop.

Newell then had another effort saved before we moved back into the lead. Bonner saw an effort saved but was able to fire home the rebound to put us 2-1 up at the break.

We began the second half as quickly as the first and moved 3-1 ahead in the 48th minute. The was worked to Hines on the edge of the box and he drilled it low and into the bottom corner past the outstretched Hammond.

That lead was extended even further as Harrison got on the score sheet. The ball was worked from right to left and the winger was there to tap in Haywood’s ball in at the back post.

Hines then struck the post, with another low effort, as he went in search of hat-trick and our fifth of the night. He then turned provider as a delightful flick sent Harrison away but he was denied his second of the game by a last-ditch challenge by Oliver Sullivan.

Our forward pressure was rewarded with another goal on 77 minutes. The ball was threaded through to Nyemba and he rounded the ‘keeper before walking the ball into the empty net.

We continued to look dangerous in the remaining minutes and saw several efforts blocked before Callum Frogson almost capped off the win with a solo effort. The centre back took the ball from the heart of defence and into the Lutterworth area, beating several players in the process, but his effort was into the side netting the score stayed at 5-1.
