We are delighted to announce that Saul Deeney will remain with the Ambers for the 2025/26 season in a player/goalkeeper coach role.
The experienced shot stopper will be highly influential in the development of all goalkeepers across the DLFC/Basford Juniors, Basford United Educational Academy and first team.
Since being brought in by Head of Football Martin Carruthers, Saul has been a central figure in the club’s recent success. His wealth of experience and deep knowledge of the game will be invaluable as we enter an exciting new era for Basford United.
His influence has been a big part in the signing of Matt Yates, with Deeney going on to say:
"I'm ready for the next chapter ahead.
"Making sure that I have all goalkeepers at Basford performing at their best, that will get us up and out of this league."
Head of Football Martin Carruthers added:
"Saul will be a huge influence on the Academy and development of all of the goalkeepers with his attitude and experience at the highest level, his work ethic and ability to motivate players will be invaluable for this football club.
"There is no better person for this role, he was one of my first signings at the club back in the old Midland League.
"He's loyal, and he will get the very best out of the goalkeepers at this football club. He's good enough to be working within a professional football environment and we're very lucky to have him."
