Samuels to join Harrogate Town

15-year-old signs two-year scholarship...

We are thrilled to confirm that another Basford United prospect has put pen-to-paper at a Football League club.

Striker Elijah Samuels will reunite with former Academy manager Josh Law at Harrogate Town after agreeing to sign a two-year scholarship with the North Yorkshire side.

The former Mansfield Development player – still only 15-years-old – has been hotly touted after impressing for Marek Vipond’s U16 side in the Midland Junior Premier League, tallying 23 goals in just 19 starts this season.

He will see out the season for United, before joining Town in the summer.

Speaking recently, his manager added: “It’s a deserved move for Elijah. When he first came in, I noticed something special about him straight away - it’s down to his hard work and understanding that he’s got this chance.

“He’s had his stumbling blocks but has rectified everything he’s done and thoroughly deserves it. We wish him all the very best and I’ll be keeping track of his progress under Josh.”

Director of football and head of the academy programme, Steve Chettle: “Although it is a loss to our academy programme, it is a massive feather in the club’s cap and a huge credit to Basford United that EFL clubs are taking players from our youth sections.

“We want to wish congratulations to Elijah and his family, as well as to Marek, who has developed this young man into a player and character that Harrogate want to take with them on their journey.”

We are all extremely proud of Elijah and his progress and the entire club wish him well under Josh at Harrogate.
