Duffy was part of the Basford United team which won promotion to the Northern Premier League Premier Division when they won the First Division South in the 2017/18 season.
Steve Chettle: “I worked with Rob, both at Ilkeston FC and Nuneaton when I was Assistant Manager to Kevin Wilson and he has a highly valued opinion of the game.
“He has a prolific goal scoring record, including here at Basford, helping them to promotion a few seasons ago, he’s someone that everyone here knows and respects and his opinion will be valuable, especially to myself and Michael, having Rob will be a big string to our bow on the coaching staff.”
Rob Duffy: “I have very fond memories of playing here, despite having a serious injury in my first competitive game. That was especially disappointing coming as it did towards the latter part of my playing career. But I had great support from the Chairman, physio and the manager at the time, all which helped me come back to play a part in the a very successful campaign the following season.
On his decision to join up with Chettle again Duffy said: “Chets being manager here played a big part in my decision to come in as a coach, I’ve worked with him as a player and I have a huge respect for him and what he has done both as a player and manager.
“I’ve been here for a couple of games now and I’m really enjoying it, the club is in a very healthy position in the league, I’m just feeling my way in, getting to know the lads, their personalities and what makes them tick. I’d like to think that my experience and know-how of the game will be a benefit, especially to the younger strikers, to help them have an impact and to show them how to give opposition defenders difficult games.”
