REPORT: Heanor Town 0-2 United

A deserved win in Derbyshire...

United bagged their first pre-season win with a 2-0 victory at Heanor Town on Wednesday night.

Dominant throughout, Basford went ahead after good work through the middle of the park allowed the trialist to race through and dink home the opener before Dom Roma powered home a second after the break.

From the start, United set their stall out and began on the front foot.

Adam Chapman – impressing on his first start in blue and white – had an audacious strike from his own half kept out by home ‘keeper Alberry before Ollie Clark’s sumptuous cross was headed marginally wide by in-form Anthony Dwyer.

Jamie Sleigh then dragged wide in a rare home chance before United went ahead.

A lovely move through the middle following fine link-up play between Dwyer and Gregg Smith set a trialist to through to chip over the onrushing Alberry for the go-ahead strike.

Tyreace Palmer fired a stinging effort marginally wide before Chapman’s cute creation saw Dwyer dance around his full-back but a follow-up header was tame.

Smith then lobbed over from the edge of the area and United went in for the break comfortably ahead.

More of the same after the interval and after Smith and Dwyer both had chances to double their side’s lead, Roma did just that after 65 minutes when he powered home a corner with his head.

Town offered little but did have a few decent chances of their own late on.

First, the lively right winger crashed the foot of the post with a low strike that flew beyond Kieran Preston, before Sleigh’s follow-up effort, after a kind ricochet was blazed well over as Basford sealed the win.

Their penultimate pre-season fixture sees them travel to Shepshed Dynamo on Saturday afternoon (3pm.)
