We are pleased to announce the signing of Harry Wakefield from Matlock Town.
With a keen eye for goal, striker Wakefield re-joins having progressed through the club’s youth system, eventually winning the 2016 intermediate cup with the U21s before, as a 17-year-old, graduating to the first team that would win the Northern Premier League, Division One (South).
He eventually moved to Anstey Nomads, where, last season, he scored 14 times in 31 appearances as they went on to earn promotion to step 4, earning him a switch to neighbours Matlock Town, where he’s featured on 18 occasions this term.
Sadly, Wakefield's registration wasn't processed in time for tonight's encounter with Lancaster City at Greenwich Avenue, but he's likely to feature for Saturday's home tie with Bradford (Park Avenue).
On the arrival, manager James Jepson said: “Harry is a player who is obviously known to the club. He’s a big strong lad who likes to get hold of the ball and scores goals, which we have been lacking lately, and will offer us something different up front.
“He’s a local lad – only living ten minutes from the ground – and having been on the bench for Matlock most of the season, he has a point to prove and they’re the sort of players we need right now."
The club places on record it’s thanks for the support, assistance and co-operation of Matlock Town and Leicester City for the smooth transaction.
