The midfielder was key in the Gladiators’ push to the Northern Premier League play-offs last season and has also played for Steve Kittrick at both Belper Town and Guiesley AFC, before signing for Matlock earlier this year.

A graduate of Walsall, Cartwright has also featured for Cfen Druids (Wales), City of Liverpool and Irlam and has represented England Colleges.

Still only 22, he was identified as a player of interest by Kittrick and assistant Luke Potter since their permanent appointments in April and the boss was delighted to get this one over the line.

Commenting, Kittrick said: “Having worked with Ethan at a number of clubs in the past, he’s someone we wanted to bring in early on and we’re happy to have done that.

“A box-to-box player with a terrific engine and an eye for goal, he compliments our current crop of midfielders perfectly.

“It didn’t quite work out at Matlock Town – whom he joined half-way through last season – but their loss is certainly our gain and Pottsy and I are thrilled to be working with him again.”
