David Boafo has joined the club as Junior Youth Development Coach.

We can announce that former player, David Boafo is taking on the role of Junior Youth Development Coach at the club.

David was part of our 2012/2013 title winning side before coaching a Basford United Community Football Club under 16s side to league success just last season.

In his new role he will be working closely with all the Community Football Club’s four under 13s and under 14s sides, as well as managing the under 18s Saturday and under 17s Sunday sides. It will also see him working alongside Head of Academy Steve Chettle and coaches Josh Law and Callum Chettle with the academy in the week, coaching the academy group who will be involved with his under 18s on a Saturday.

He said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be taking up the role as Junior Youth Development Coach.

“This club has and always will hold a special place in my heart, which gives me even more motivation to build on what has been achieved here so far.

“Chetts (Steve Chettle), Josh (Law) and all the other coaching staff along with the Chairman (Chris Munroe) have shown me a tremendous amount of appreciation and support since I started in a temporary position before the pandemic.

“I am really looking forward to what the future has in store for the next generation of young players here at Basford United.”

The aim of this new role is to help implement the club’s coaching styles and philosophies as well as providing support to coaches and players in the community sides to help them progress.

We hope that this will allow us to create a clear pathway from the Community Football Club at a young age through to our academy and the first team, showing that the opportunity for players to grow and succeed at Greenwich Avenue is there for them.

Head of Academy and First Team Manager Steve Chettle said: “David is a fantastic example of the Basford United family.

“He has been a player and gained promotion with the senior team, started his coaching pathway, managed a community team and gained promotion and developed players that have now gone onto form part of the Basford United Academy.

“David will develop teams in our Junior Youth section and work closely with myself, Josh (Law) and Callum (Chettle). He will become another valued member of our coaching staff and we will continue to make strides forward to develop all of our players and coaches throughout the club.

“Welcome aboard David.”
