NSL Senior Wollaton 4 v 1 Basford Community 1sts NSL Division 2 Basford Community 2nds 3 v 1 Bingham Town 2nds

Two really good performances by our young teams brought contrasting fortunes as the 1sts suffered a tough loss, but the 2nds came from behind to win at home to Bingham Town res on the 3G.
Starting with the Wollaton game Community included new signing keeper Danny Brown who had a fine game as well as 1st team manager Martin Carruthers to provide that on field experience for still a really young Community outfit.
In a really good game Wollaton took the advantage as Jake Fisher clinically finished for 1 -0 . Community keeper Brown produced some fine stops early stages to keep the young side in the game. However weathering the storm the young lads played their way into the game as Ewan Sweeting brought Community level on 35 min finishing in fine style 1-1 at the break. 2nd period the tables turned and Community gave it a real go. Sweeting had a superb chance to put the team ahead but headed over an unguarded net and moments later a fine back post header smashed against the crossbar. With 5 minutes to go then and a small lack of naivety as the team should have shut up shop to claim a very good point but this was outdone on 86min. Wollaton Left back Marcus Liburd who had a good game was able to override 3 weak tackles to get to the byline and square for Liam Towle to pick his spot past Brown. Inside a minute the game was over as pushing on a ball over the top allowed Jake Fisher to break clear, and the proven striker doesn’t miss openings like this for 1-3. Again pushing on 93 minute another breakaway and a 4th goal for Sean Craven for a 1-4 final scoreline. A harsh result on the young team and managers Ray Walker & Pat Walsh, but this team is a WIP with some great talent, and as soon as they adapt to this higher level than last season they will win far more than they lose. MOM Danny Brown on a very good debut.
Last night The Community 2nds put in a stirring fightback to show great maturity to record a come from behind victory against high flying Bingham Town who played a good game. After falling behind via an under hit back pass coolly hit home by Bradford the young side competed well with the visitors. Ironically as soon as the heavens opened & the 3G got slick, this galvanised the young Community team. Zaire Jackson-Birchall began to get into the game and thought he had brought Community level with a thumping 30 yarder, than cannoned down off the underside of the bar & ruled not to have crossed the line. 0-1 at the break the home side kept asking questions and drew level on 65min. Once again looked no danger as Zaire Jackson-Birchall lined up a free kick some 35 yards out, but smashed home an effort past the keeper before he even knew about it. Moments later Community had the lead as a fine cross was headed home by a defender for an OG. The killer goal saw Zaire Jackson-Birchall force home at the back post after the keeper had parried a low shot. After these a point blank save from Will Munroe and the woodwork to keep out a low effort ensured 3 fine points for Willis Francis & Jack Kavanghs young side. MOM hard to look further than Zaire Jackson-Birchall but Reece Allen looks a great prospect on the flank.
