Despite being reasonably ahead of fixtures Basford will be playing three Northern Premier league games in five days.
A visit to the twice cancelled local derby away at Mickleover Sports has been hastily arranged for this Thursday (12th) 7.45pm. Then 48 hours later Scarborough will visit Greenwich Avenue, followed by a trip to playoff chasing Nantwich Town on Tuesday 17th.
The tough schedule could see United without skipper Matt Thornhill who has been one of the league’s most influential midfielders this campaign and fresh off a new contract.
Thornhill pulled up and exited after just eight minutes of Saturday’s loss at home to Buxton and United struggled for a long period to adapt to the enforced change of our captain.
The extent of the injury though looks hopefully to be more precautionary, but the next few days will provide an indication of a recuperation plan from physio Cameron Nind.
With Basford also recently missing Brad Gascoigne and Courey Grantham through injuries and James Reid for the last two games, it’s been a tough stretch for United who will look to bounce back Thursday.
Better new though sees Gascoigne and Reid back available for selection this week. The striking options will also be bolstered by the return of Zak Goodson from Newark Flowserve. Zak Goodson has done well in his 3 months out on loan at Newark, registering goals and gaining match sharpness, so the club is delighted to welcome Zak back for the crucial run in.
