Willis Francis’ side continued their unbeaten start to pre-season with an impressive 4–2 win over Notts County B under the lights at Greenwich Avenue.
It was the visitors who had the first real opportunity inside five minutes, as their No.11 found space in behind the Basford backline, forcing a save from Yates.
Basford responded swiftly and took the lead on 11 minutes. Jordy Hallam slipped a well-weighted ball to Kieran Cummings on the right, who cut inside and bent a brilliant strike into the far corner.
Hallam nearly doubled the lead just before the half-hour mark, working space for himself on the edge of the area before dragging his effort narrowly wide, a recurring theme for the Ambers throughout the evening.
Notts County B grew into the game and looked dangerous on the counter. On 39 minutes, their No.9 latched onto a through ball and slotted calmly through Yates’ legs to level things going into the break.
The second half started brightly for the visitors, and on the hour mark their No.9 bagged his second of the night with another composed finish after breaking the defensive line.
But Basford weren’t behind for long. Just eight minutes later, Tyler Dacres pressed high to win back possession, skipped past two defenders and rifled a brilliant finish into the top corner to make it 2–2.
Wayde Hines then had two chances in quick succession, the first a narrowly missed shot after Dimaio’s lofted pass, and the second a well-placed strike after a cross from Chapman, giving Basford the lead in the 77th minute.
Moments later, Hines was brought down in the box to earn a penalty. Up stepped Palmer, who blasted his effort into the top corner to round off a confident Basford performance.
