Basford United fell to a 3-1 defeat against Worksop Town in the Nottinghamshire derby. A brace from Liam Hughes and a well taken goal from Aaron Martin sealed the win for the Tigers.

It was a first half with very little clear-cut chances. Liam Hughes hit the post for the Tigers in the 17th minute whilst Rev James came closest for the Ambers but a loose touch from the forward allowed Worksop keeper Tommy Taylor to smother the ball before any damage could be done.

Worksop dominated the ball in the opening stages, firing in lots of crosses into the box for the powerful Hughes to try and create something for the visitors but the makeshift Basford backline stayed strong for the opening 45 minutes.

Like the first half it was the Tigers who started brighter, and the pressure eventually paid off when Liam Hughes came crashing through the crowd following a corner where he was able to bundle the ball over the line. Hughes doubled his and Worksop’s tally moment later when he found space in the box to head the ball past Deeney.

Basford had a way back into the game in the 66th minute when ash Chambers found the roof of the net with his effort from close range. However, moments later Aaron Martin sealed the game for the Tigers when we turned the ball in from close range.

Joe Uveges rattled the post towards the end, but Worksop held on for all three points.
