MATCH PREVIEW: Stafford Rangers (H)

MATCH PREVIEW: Stafford Rangers (H)

Marc Williams23 Aug 2021 - 17:30

Here is everything you need to know...

Still on the lookout for their first win of the season, Basford welcome Stafford Rangers to Greenwich Avenue on Tuesday night after two successive defeats.

LAST TIME OUT:
A winless start to the season for Steve Chettle’s men continued when Atherton Collieries ran away 3-0 winners at the Skuna Stadium on Saturday.

Marcus Cusani scored twice late on, after Jack Lenehan’s tenth minute strike to set Colls well on their way.

United’s fruitless trip up to Greater Manchester came after defeat at Matlock Town last Tuesday night, and a draw against Scarborough Athletic.

Stafford moved up to 6th in the latest Northern Premier League standings with a comfortable win at the weekend over Radcliffe at Marston Road and Tuesday’s trip to Nottingham will be their first on the road this season.

Tom Tonks strike on the hour put them ahead and their second win of the season was sealed eight minutes from time when Luca Navarro tucked home, which followed an opening day win over Morpeth Town.

These wins came either side of a 1-0 reverse against Warrington.

PREVIOUS ENCOUNTERS:
Defender Stef Galinksi proved to be the late match winner when the two sides met back in October (pictured) against a Rangers team who were without a win and rooted bottom before a Covid-enforced null and void season.

Almost a year earlier, United ran out 3-1 winners at Greenwich Avenue.

Kane Richards gave them a seventh minute lead, before Brad Grayson pegged one back only two minutes later. However, James Reid and Liam Hearn ensured of all three points.

Two draws preceded that league win and Basford were comfortable 4-0 winners in their FA Trophy tie in November 2018. Strikes from Hearn and Kieran Fenton followed a Zak Goodson brace, allowing the hosts to progress that day.

Two months prior, Stafford recorded their only win in the last six when they won 3-1 in Staffordshire. Hearn gave his side the lead but goals from Luke Jones, Sam Couldon and Kyle Perry won it for Boro’.

LAST FIVE:
20/10/20: BAS 1-0 STF
19/10/19: BAS 3-1 STF
03/09/19: STF 0-0 BAS
23/02/19: BAS 2-2 STF
10/11/18: BAS 4-0 STF (FA Trophy)

INJURY NEWS:
United remain without Callum Chettle and Ollie Clark who are still long-term absentees.

Skipper Matt Thornhill missed both trips to Matlock and Atherton but may be fit enough for a place on the bench as he recovers from a groin injury.

Striker Richards is available again after serving a three-match suspension, but Chettle could be without Aaron O’Connor (groin), Brad Gascoigne (hip) and Declan Dunn (quadricep) who all picked up knocks at the weekend.
