Law joins Harrogate Town

32-year-old joins as Head of Youth Coaching...

Basford United can confirm that academy manager Josh Law has joined League Two side Harrogate Town.

Law has already begun his job at the EnviroVent Stadium - having let the club know of this exciting opportunity before Christmas - and will work as Head of Youth Coaching.

The 32-year-old arrived at Basford back in 2019 from York City as a player and later doubled up his role as Lead Development Professional Phase Coach at Greenwich Avenue.

Under his excellent management, guidance and tutelage, our scholars have achieved huge success.

Last year, they reached the third round proper of the FA Youth Cup for the first time in the Club’s history.

On a record-breaking run that led to wins over Alfreton Town, Lutterworth Athletic, Mickleover and Lincoln United, they reached the first round, comfortably winning 4-1 away at Port Vale before a 1-0 win over Grimsby Town.

A 4-0 defeat to Premier League West Bromwich Albion put an end to the memorable feat, but it certainly put Basford – the lowest ranked team remaining in the competition at the time – on the map.

“It’s a great opportunity to progress for me personally and my career,” Law said.

“It wasn’t an easy decision as I really enjoyed it at Basford, and everybody has been brilliant with me, but it’s in the professional game at an EFL club and it’ll help me progress.

“I am proud of what I’ve achieved and to be recognised by a professional team – in a job I’m going to go to – is unbelievable.

“All the lads have been excellent in the last 18 months or so. Their work rate and effort have been exemplary and that’s subsequently led to their Youth Cup successes.

“I’ll miss them a lot, wish them all the very best and I’ll certainly keep an eye on their progress.”

Director of Football Steve Chettle said: “I’m really pleased for Josh and it’s something he thoroughly deserves.

“He’s super organised, he’s keen, he’s very passionate and he wants the best out of everybody. He was full ‘heart on sleeve’ when he played, and that didn’t change throughout his coaching.

“I’m gutted he’s going, but it’s for the right reasons and I wish him all the very best.

Chairman and Owner Chris Munroe said: “I would like to personally wish Josh all the very best after doing such a superb job with us.

“The appointment typifies our approach in not holding back any player or coach from achieving the ultimate and a career at the pro-level.”

As sad as we are to see him leave, we are extremely proud of Josh and his achievements.

We thank him for all his efforts and wish him the very best of luck in North Yorkshire.
