New signing, Kyle Dixon, spoke to Basford TV about how he can help the club fulfill its aspirations of promotion.

"I feel like a club like this is always moving forward,” Dixon said. “The chairman, the manager, and supporting cast, everyone wants to win the league, everyone wants to progress, and this club is massive in terms of its aspiration.

“It's about moving forward as a club and giving an excellent account of ourselves to hopefully be in the top two, if not win the league."

Dixon spoke about his previous working relationship with Basford United manager, Steve Chettle, from their time at Ilkeston Town; and how that good relationship lured him back to Basford United for a second spell.

"When you play football, you want to play for someone who understands the game and the way he wants you to play, that's a massive part of it. You've got to make sure they've got trust in you and obviously that something that he [Steve Chettle] has arrived. Chetts, he is a massive part of me coming here. I'm excited to get going and play under him again.”

Dixon comes to Basford United after a very successful season at Newark Flowserve who play in the Midland Football league Premier Division, one league below Basford United.

Dixon's campaign saw him net 11 goals and record over 20 assists, something he hopes to emulate at Greenwich avenue.

"I was having a really good season. I was setting up a lot of goals and scoring myself a lot playing just off the main striker. It was perfect and it was nice to play with a few friendly faces at Newark and good to progress and get forward. The manager was outstanding over there. He had a lot of faith in me and pushed me forward as a footballer. I am hoping to come here to Chetts and do the same thing.

“I had a really good season last season. I want to push on and score more goals and create for my teammates and hopefully be a success here at Basford.”

Even with an impressive season under his belt, Dixon isn't getting ahead of himself. The 25-year-old remains grounded and focused on improving.

"Last season, I exceeded my own expectations. I don't want to say what my numbers for my own performance are going to be for this upcoming season as if I don't reach them I’ll look daft,” he joked.

“Still, I do have a number, and it is going to be difficult with this being a higher league, but I'm hoping I can achieve it and do well here."
