BASFORD UNITED U21 DEVELOPMENT 4 – 2 RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC
Jericho Bonner scored a hat-trick as Steve Chettle’s development side emphatically progressed to the quarter-final of the Nottinghamshire FA Senior Trophy with a win over NSL Division One leaders Radcliffe Olympic.
An excellent performance all-round, Bonner put his side in front with a neat finish just before Charlie Fox doubled the advantage with an emphatic header that gave the visiting ‘keeper no chance.
Olympic pulled a goal back but Bonner bagged his second of the day, United’s third, and went on to round-off a final individual showing with a hat-trick late on.
Radcliffe clawed one back, but it wasn’t enough as the U21s advanced and can look forward to a last 8 tie against Newark Town at Greenwich Avenue in a few weeks’ time.
Keep an eye out for that one!
BASFORD UNITED YOUTH U17 3 – 2 CARL BAKER FOOTBALL ACADEMY U18
David Boafo’s encouraging group secured a fine win over high-fliers Carl Baker on Saturday in the early kick-off at Greenwich Avenue.
Tyler Dacres found himself on the scoresheet twice and Mutawakel Eissa put the game to bed with a third late on.
CONGLETON TOWN JUNIORS U16 2 – 4 BASFORD UNITED U16
Marek Vipond’s group came from two goals down to seal an excellent result away at Congleton in the Midland Junior Premier League, a win that sees them more within 2 points of their opponents.
Goals from Cian McTintosh and Ed Frempong had put the hosts 2-0 up before Joe Gascoigne pulled one back just before the break with a powerful header.
Some stern words from the manager yielded a fine response and showed why they are strong contenders for the league this campaign.
Relentless pressure forced a rash tackle from a home defender and Ben Smith fired home the resultant penalty to draw the sides level.
The exciting Jonny Gilbert then broke with 20 minutes remaining to complete a memorable comeback; calmly slotting past the ‘keeper.
And with 10 minutes remaining, the turnaround was confirmed when Marley Brown pounced on a deflected cross to head into the net and seal the points.
An impressive display was capped by an equally impressive individual showing from Oakley Kennedy; the midfielder doubling-up as a centre back to control the game.
BASFORD UNITED SKY U12 3 – 3 LOUGHBOROUGH EMMANUEL TIGERS U12
Saran Ubhi scored twice as our U12s were held to a 3-3 draw at home to table-toppers Loughborough at the weekend.
Thomas Vickers latter added a third, but it was a decent point gained against the league leaders.
