INJURY UPDATE: Terry Hawkridge

Midfielder injury not as first feared...

We are happy to report that Terry Hawkridge did not suffer any severe damage to his ankle after he was stretchered off in the 1-0 win over South Shields on Saturday.

The midfielder was withdrawn after going down following an innocuous challenge with Shields captain Blair Adams just before half-time.

Despite the near ten-minute stoppage, Hawkridge was able to travel back with the team after the game, albeit on crutches.

After consultation with a physiotherapist, it’s “likely” he suffered a little tear in his ankle, but no break, fracture of ligament damage was evident.

It’s unknown at this stage how long Hawkridge will be out for but has been recommended by professionals to continue using crutches for the “next day or two” until he is able to walk freely without pain.

Once the swelling has fully reduced and mobility has been regained, he should be available again for selection.

Hawkridge, 31, joined United in October and has made ten appearances under boss Steve Chettle this term.
