League leaders Basford United completed a comfortable victory at
Romulus who worked hard and show a lot of promise for the new Management team. Despite an all star show from the home sides keeper Billy Spink son of Ex Aston Villa keeper Nigel Spink, he was helpless as Basford cut loose 2nd period.

Basford dominated the opening period & the young home keeper made a trio of excellent saves to deny Rob Duffy twice and James Reid. He was helpless though as Liam Hearn’s 25th minute
goal opened the scoring. Hearn blasted in a shot from twelve yards after James Reid’s cross
The home team boasting no fewer than 5 new players were certainly in the game 1st period &
Saul Deeney pulled off a fine save from Jordan Francis' excellent strike from 25 yards destined for the top corner just before the interval.
The threat of dropped points was erased as Hearn doubled the lead seven minutes into the second half from the penalty spot after a handling offence. Spink then made another brilliant save from James Reid, before the inform Basford striker Hearn completed his hat trick
after 65 minutes with an emphatic finish after taking a pass from Kieran Wells after a fine Basford move involving James Reid.
Deon Meikle headed in Reid’s free kick on 84 minutes and Harry Wakefield made it five two minutes later beating Spink to the ball and rounding the keeper to score.
An emphatic away day victory as the gap at the top opened to a 15 point margin but still with over half a season to go a lot more work to do
Basford are next in action on Tuesday night travelling to Gresley in the 2nd round of the Integro Doodson League cup 7.45pm . Expected to give minutes to 1st teamers who will benefit from such and our excellent crop of youngsters then no doubt the team will be competitive and look to follow the excellent 1st round victory at Belper Town. The Next league game is Sat 3rd Dec at home to Kidsgrove Athletic at Basford.
