Greenwich Avenue to host charity match in honour of local resident

Josh Wing24 Jun 2018 - 09:47

Friends and family of Gareth Betts who passed away from a brain tumour are teaming up to raise money with a charity football match at Basford.

Gareth Betts of Bagnall Road, Nottingham, has left behind a wife and two children and was a close friend to many before sadly passing away.

Gareth, 38, suffered from a brain tumour and now his friends and family are looking to hold a memorial day in his name.

Basford United will be supporting all involved with a match being held at Greenwich Avenue, Sunday 1st July.

All funds raised will go towards the charity chosen by Gareth's family with over 150 people expected to attend.

Alongside the match, there will be stalls and a bouncy castle set up around the ground.

A raffle will also take place with a signed football shirt and boxing gloves amongst the prizes.

Kindly donated, a trophy will be handed over to the winning team after the match.

As Gareth was a huge football fan at heart and someone who helped with charity himself, a fundraising event of this kind seems very fitting.

Everyone at Basford United wishes Gareth's family the very best with the event and our thoughts will be with all involved on the day.
