Basford missing players through injuries and suspensions, and on a poor run of form, were two goals down in the first twenty minutes. Hyde number 9 Chib Chilaka, who was a handful for the home defence all afternoon, gave the visitors a tenth minute lead. The ball was pulled back from the goal line and Chilaka was on hand to turn it wide of Basford goalkeeper Kieran Preston.

Two minutes later Hyde’s Nicky Platt saw his low shot go wide of Preston’s left hand post. Hyde were not to be denied however, and Referee Alan Cox awarded a penalty in the nineteenth minute, penalising Liam Bateman for a push on Paddy Lane. Tom Pratt took the spot kick and netted, Preston managing to get a leg to the ball but was unable to keep it out.

Hyde were threatening going forward and Pratt saw his centre just elude any incoming Hyde forward. Basford were next to threaten, but a long ball over the top of Hyde’s back line was a fraction too far for Revarnelle James and Gregory Tempest.

Hyde were not be denied though, and in the twenty-fifth minute Ross Daly found Chilaka on the edge of the Basford six yard box, who drove home his second and Hyde’s third goal.

Basford looked to force their way back into the match, and Deon Meikle’s thirty-first minute rising shot was saved by Hyde goalkeeper Peter Crook. A minute later Hyde went down the other end and Pratt hit the Basford crossbar with a powerful drive.

Worse was to follow for Basford with two more goals before half time. A Hyde in-swinging corner in the thirty-seventh minute was met by centre back John McCombe who saw his glancing header beat Preston. Four minutes later Chilaka completed his hat trick when he picked up the ball with his back to goal, turned and scored with a dipping shot over Preston, ensuring Hyde went in to the break with a 5-0 lead.

Zak Goodson did put Basford on the score sheet in the fiftieth minute, turning the ball home at the far post. Hyde struck back two minutes later. Preston made a fine save to turn Chilaka’s shot over the bar for a corner, from which a scramble ensued in the home six yard box, Platt forcing the ball home to restore Hyde’s five goal advantage.

The sixty-third minute saw a good move down the Basford right, the ball reaching Matt Thornhill who saw his shot blocked for a corner.

This amazing match continued to worsen for Basford when Chilaka added his fourth individual goal of the afternoon in the seventieth minute. Platt’s ball from the Hyde right found Chilaka, who powered his shot home.

Platt then saw his low shot saved by Preston, before Goodson added a second goal for Basford. Crook made an outstanding save from James Reid, but the ball ran away from the goalkeeper and Goodson picked up the loose ball to score.

The goalscoring had still not finished. The Basford defence failed to clear a Hyde free kick in the eighty-sixth minute. Janni Lipka found himself on his own in the home penalty area and took advantage by scoring.

Home Captain Lewis Carr completed the scoring in the ninetieth minute when Reid hit the Hyde post. McCombe blocked a follow up shot on the Hyde goal line, but Carr put the ball home to round off the scoring of an amazing match.
