22-year-old centre-back, Charlie Gatter, and 20-year-old goalkeeper, Jordan Pierrepont, signed for Basford United earlier today and both have spoken to media after signing on the dotted line.
Gatter is the former central defensive partner of Stef Galinski from their time at Hednesford Town, a partnership he is hopeful of reforming next season: “I played with Stef at Hednesford a couple of years ago and we get on really well. He’s a great guy on and off the field and a great leader too but I think its really important to have good partnerships all over the pitch and that’s something I hope to achieve with Stef.”
Gatter is also well known to Steve Chettle from his time as an apprentice at Nottingham Forest. “I've spoken to the gaffer and I've worked with him at Nottingham Forest as a kid, so we already had a relationship and since we’ve spoken again, it’s made my decision a lot easier.
“It’s on my doorstep. I’m a Nottingham lad, it’s really close to home and my work; It’s a club with great ambition and it's certainly going in the right direction.”
Jordan Pierrepont joins Basford United from Heanor Town on a three-year deal and is excited to get started: “I just can’t wait to get back on the pitch” he said. “It feels like it’s been a while since we’ve played football so I’m really looking forward to playing football.”
“I’m absolutely delighted. I’m buzzing to get going and it’s a great club with ambitions to get promoted. I wanted to test myself and keep stepping up and see what I can do and improve myself.”
Both players have their eyes focussed on the first team. When asked about his aims for the upcoming season, Pierrepont said: “I think, first of all, I need to be challenging for the number one shirt and then go from there.”
What do you feel you can add to this defence? Gatter replied: “I want to add as much as possible, to keep as many clean sheets as possible, to get as many wins as possible. I just hope I can make a difference.”
