The Dog & Duck Stadium in Wellingborough is Basford’s destination on Saturday, as they head to Northamptonshire for their first ever taste of FA Trophy action, with AFC Rushden & Diamonds as their hosts.
United head into this weekend’s Preliminary Round fixture on the back of two straight defeats and speaking after Tuesday night’s 2-1 league defeat by Sheffield FC, first team coach Chris Freestone feels a morale boost is required to get his side back to winning ways
“We’ll look at training, we’ll try and get some confidence back into the lads,” said Freestone. “Off the back of the FA Cup defeat we kept it a little bit relaxed tonight and our first half performance was really good off the back of that but we’ll look at it again and we’ll pick players based on merit, try and build their confidence up, go at it and look at it as a completely different game and hopefully we’ll come away with a win.”
Manager Martin Carruthers could face something of a selection headache on Saturday, with a number of players already missing out through injury on Tuesday night and two more having to be substituted during the game.
