We are delighted to announce that men’s first team manager Willis Francis has put pen to paper on a contract that will see him lead the Ambers into our 125th anniversary season.

Head of Football Martin Carruthers has also signed a new deal, continuing his invaluable support both on and off the pitch. He will play a key role in assisting the men’s first team through his contacts, experience, and dedication to football at Greenwich Avenue.

As confirmed earlier this week, Saul Deeney will also remain with the Ambers in a player/coach role. The experienced shot-stopper will be instrumental in the development of goalkeepers across DLFC/Basford Juniors, the Basford United Educational Academy, and the first team.

Club owner Chris Munroe expressed his excitement at retaining the trio:

“I’m absolutely delighted to secure Willis, Gandi, and Saul on management and coaching deals for the 2025/26 season.

"The last three weeks have been a whirlwind, and the first team is looking completely reinvigorated.

"Without question, the recruitment — including negotiations around retained players — has been A*. Hopefully, we can embrace one step backwards to take two steps forward.”

Martin Carruthers added:

“I’m absolutely delighted to be back at the club — exciting times lie ahead.
It’s been an intense few weeks trying to secure both current and new players, but we’re very happy with the business conducted so far.

"It was an easy decision to commit to this new project, and I’m thrilled to be working alongside my good friend Willis.

"With the support and backing from Chris and Dave, we’ll have the resources we need to make this season a success and get the place buzzing again.”

Willis Francis said:
“I am delighted to be committing to the club and I thank the club for showing faith in me.

“I want to be part of the 3 year plan and this is the first step.

“I am delighted with the squad that we have put together and excited for the new season.”
