Floodlight launch game a great success

Floodlight launch game a great success

Chris Munroe8 Nov 2011 - 14:10

The official switch on of our new floodlights was a day to remember.

Given the awful weather of the previous week to be greeted on Sunday morning with sunshine was a real blessing and got ensured the day was something very special in the history of Basford FC. A crowd of 217 we hope got value for money and were treated to a good game, within such it was brilliant to see such Basford legends as Paul Jepson, Billy Daft,George Hulley to name but a very few. The Notts legends team clearly showed that whilst the legs might be a little older the ability to hold up the ball and move it around at pace was excellent to view. Basford started with our current 1st team and impressed the viewing public and here is one for the memory book, Kevin Walker chipping big 6ft 4inch Norm Crossley in delightful fashion to open the scoring.Close to the break ex Villa man Martin Carruthers leveled and then ex Basford forward Chris Freestone got the legends in front at the break. At half time the Forest legend Kenny Burns performed the switch on ceremony which went without a hitch and that led to 2nd half managers George Hulley and Martin Soley putting out a team of former Basford players including the excellent Nick Grayling, Matt Boulty, John Manders, to name but a few. With the crowd cheering Big Norms every touch it was a real fun atmosphere as the game concluded with the legends winning the game 3-1. After the game post game was an absolute treat and a big thank you to the Headstocks puitting on a super spread. Norm and Kenny put on a really good speaker session and really complemented each other reflecting different decades but with one common theme Cloughy. Finally Forest player John Burns band The establishment gave us a really good performance to round off a great night that was a massive PR excecise for the club.
