On Saturday Basford United break new ground by playing in the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, opponents Kettering Town have a rich Cup history.

To reach this stage, starting from the Preliminary Round, we have beaten Staveley Miners Welfare, Halesowen Town and Mickleover Sports.

Kettering entered the competition at the 2nd qualifying stage, where they defeated Kidsgrove Athletic.

The Poppies hold the record for most goals in FA Cup history having scored 870 goals between 1888 and 2016, with Ollie Burgess scoring the 800th goal against St Albans City on 11 October 2005 when scoring a hat-trick.

They have reached the First Round proper 41 times, and played in the Fourth Round proper on two occasions: 1988–89 and 2008–09.

In the 2008-09 season, they beat Lincoln City, Notts County and Eastwood Town to reach the fourth round, where they faced Fulham at home, eventually losing 4-2 to the Premier League club.
