Duffy steps up as coach

The club is delighted to announce the appointment of Rob Duffy (pictured) as first team player/coach.

Duffy, 34, Joined Basford in summer 2016 but suffered a serious Achilles tendon injury in the first league game of the season which has kept him out of playing action since although he has taken an active role in the team technical area.

Martin Carruthers said:
“Rob is an up and coming coach and will bring a huge amount of experience to Basford United. He will implement a plan to improve the playing, coaching and team spirit levels throughout the club.

“All players throughout the club will have the opportunity to work with Rob and to work towards their personal playing goals. Rob is an innovative coach who will bring the best out of our players not only through his coaching, but also utilising his vast playing experience and supporting the players during games.

“We hope all players, coaches, staff and supporters are excited about this initiative as the club embarks on a sustained plan of improvements on and off the pitch over the months and years to come.

“He will still be playing a key role as a member of the playing squad and his experience and goals will be huge for us in our quest for success. Once we get Rob fully fit we will have one hell of a player on our hands who will further boost our promotion push for the coming season.”

Duffy is a former Welsh Youth and Under-21 international, and has also played for Rushden & Diamonds, Oxford United, Wrexham, Newport County and Mansfield Town.
