Draw for FA Cup made

Draw for FA Cup made

Marc Williams25 Aug 2022 - 10:04

We host step 5 opposition...

Always one for the calendar, the draw the first qualifying Round of the FA Cup was made on Monday afternoon, and we have been drawn to face Romulus of the Midland Football League, Premier Division.

The tie will be played on Saturday, September 3 at Greenwich Avenue (3pm), with any replays expected to take place the following week.

Birmingham-based Romulus reached this stage with an impressive 3-0 win over higher-leagued Halesowen Town last Saturday and are managed by Jason Lanns.

They currently sit 16th, having lost both their opening two fixtures this season, and travel to Shifnal Town on Bank Holiday Monday in their next outing.

Last season, we reached the Third Qualifying Round after wins against Stourbridge and Mickleover before losing out to now-National League North side Banbury United.

In the junior edition of the world’s oldest national competition, Steve Chettle’s scholars make the journey to Lincolnshire and Deeping Rangers for their FA Youth Cup, preliminary round tie.

We have had huge success over the last two FA Youth Cup competitions, the first culminating in a 4-0 third round proper defeat to Premier League West Bromwich Albion in the 2020-21 season after a quite magnificent run as the lowest-ranked team under then-boss Josh Law.

Most recently, wins over Kimberley, St. Andrews, Halesowen, and this year’s opponents Deeping, saw us set up a tie against Doncaster Rovers where they were cruelly knocked out 2-1, after a 94th minute winner from Jack Goodman.

The match is expected to be played on Thursday, September 1 (7.45pm).
