Basford United Football Club, on behalf of chairman and owner Chris Munroe, would like to issue a wholehearted apology to any of our wonderful fans offended by comments made by him over social media at the weekend.

He will now, as a result, be withdrawing from such online platforms.

The club has been in a tough place since the turn of the year, off the back of a barrage of injuries and suspension and have been also impacted by several other factors on the pitch, such as expulsion from the Nottinghamshire Senior Cup.

Outside the club, we have all been really affected by the sad passings of associates, friends or family of management and playing staff, and the death of long-term supporter and friend, Malcolm Storer, still really impacts us all.

As club officials, we are all human beings and have highs and lows. Most of us do work on a voluntary basis with great passion and love for our amazing club. Therefore, it is hard facing a barrage of perceived negativity and criticism when, in reality, we really feel the club is in a great place.

Both the club and it’s chairman wholeheartedly respect the views and opinions of all supporters, and we hope you all realise that the players, management, staff, and patrons are fully appreciative of our fans and followers, and your individual opinions.

Having experienced fantastic support this season, teamed with some wonderful highs, such as our record-breaking FA Cup run and the erection and launch of our new clubhouse, we would all like to savour the positives and not place too much focus on the lows at this time.

They will pass very quickly, and we ask that you put your trust in our long-term goals, aims and project - your backing and support will be pivotal to this.

Incomings, outgoings, loss of form and beyond are all part and parcel of football and in no such circumstances are the decisions made of a personal nature.
