Club announce progressive expansion plans

Marc Williams24 Jun 2022 - 16:00

A update on the the first team, academy, CFC and ladies...

In what has been an extremely busy period for all sections of Basford United, the club are delighted to announce a range of expansions and progressive measures for the upcoming season.

As pre-season starts on Saturday (June 25), the managerial duo of Mark Clifford and newly appointed assistant Dave Frecklington go into the new campaign with renewed vigour and expectation, as their squad starts to take shape.

Confirmed in recent weeks, we have introduced our first ever ladies’ side, now fully integrated into the set up and who will run a solitary senior team in the East Midlands Regional Football League, as well as competing in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.

The side will play on Sundays with the final set of open trials expected to take place on Sunday June 26 (2-3.30pm).

We are also delighted to welcome Stephen Rooth to the club as new Director of Women’s Football. He will take up the role with immediate effect.

Our Basford Community Football Club – previously the U21s who competed in the Nottinghamshire Senior League Development Division under Steve Chettle and Andy Laud – will now compete in the Premier Division of the Euro Soccer Nottinghamshire Senior League this season.

The management team will be revealed in due course.

Taking their place in the Development League will be our Basford United U16 Ravens side, who take their first step into senior football.

We are also delighted to confirm that, given the underlying strength and reputation of our Football Education Academy – we will be running two U19 sides, to compete in the National League U19 Alliance on a Wednesday afternoon.

Finally, we are thrilled to report a significant increase in our Community Football Club junior sections, with nine new junior teams joining for the 2022/23 season.

Commenting, owner and director Chris Munroe stated: “We, as a complete club, go into 2022/23 with vast expectation and offer a superb playing structure at all levels of Basford United and CFC.

“The first team, CFC firsts, the new ladies’ section, and academy structure, as well as the junior and youth sections really excite us, and, whilst it won’t be an easy task, the club’s hierarchy will do our utmost to support all our teams and age groups.

“With regard to fans, please help us embrace all these teams with your valued support as we continue to build the Basford United and CFC brand.

“Thanks as always for the tireless efforts of those within the club.”
