Chettle and Reid reflect on Basford's win over Stafford Rangers

Harry Worgan22 Oct 2019 - 15:47

Basford United manager Steve Chettle was delighted that his side ended a busy week of football with all three points.

Basford were 3-1 winners at home to Stafford Rangers, after they drew against Morpeth Town and picked beat FC United of Manchester earlier in the week.

And the fact that the win over Stafford stretched Basford’s home run to six straight wins made him even happier.

“It’s ended a good week for us,” he said. “ We got a point at Morpeth and then the wins at FC United of Manchester and at home (against Stafford).

“We just need to keep winning at home and picking up points away.

“It’s great ( to win six games in a row at home), we like playing at home. We set the pitch up to play in a certain fashion and it suits the team.”

Midfielder James Reid, who scored to put Basford 2-1 ahead and won the chairman’s man of the match award, feels the side showed good character and that will help them chase down league leaders South Shields.

He “Obviously they (Stafford Rangers) pegged us back to 1-1. But our character showed, we kept going and got the goals to get all three points.

“ We’ll try our best to catch South Shields, we just need to make sure that keep winning and aim for the top.”
