BASFORD UTD & CENTRAL COLLEGE LAUNCH NEW ACADEMY

BASFORD UTD & CENTRAL COLLEGE LAUNCH NEW ACADEMY

Chris Munroe21 Apr 2014 - 10:13

Central College Nottingham has teamed up with Basford United FC to launch an exciting new football & education academy programme for talented 16-18 year olds.

The College is holding a special trial for students who may be interested in the programme on Tues 27 May at 1pm at the Charnwood sports complex Farnborough Rd, Clifton.
For more information contact the College on 0115 914 6414.

The courses take place at Basford United from September and combine academic study, high quality football coaching and the chance to play in the Youth Conference at the fastest developing non-league set-up in the City.

Tutors from the College and UEFA A and B Licenced staff will deliver level 2 and 3 BTEC Sport courses with the opportunity to progress to a Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching.
Students will have a programme that develops their training, fitness, psychology and physiological underpinning knowledge as well as their practical skills in football and coaching.

Students on the programme will also have the opportunity to train with the senior team and could progress to play with the Club.

Head of Sport at Central College, Adam Beazeley said: “This exciting partnership will appeal to students who have a passion to succeed in football and want to combine this with a reputable education partner. The College is looking to grow its sports offer across the City so teaming up with a football club with the ambition and recent success of Basford is hugely exciting for everyone involved. We are fully committed to making this programme a huge success.”

Chris Munroe, General Manager of the club said: “We’re delighted to form a partnership that will provide Nottingham’s young players an exciting football education programme that will offer recognised qualifications and a strong performance environment. We’re very excited and look forward to seeing the first students flourish and progress into our first team. The city is a renowned hot-bed for football talent and we want Basford to be at the forefront of supporting this player development."

The programme has been given a strong endorsement from current Basford player and ex Peterborough & Lincoln striker Francis Green who said. “I was plucked from non-league football at the age of eighteen so I can fully endorse this kind of programme which will give young players striving to achieve their dream a great development opportunity. I’m a great example of a player getting a break from a local club to the professional game. I never gave up trying to improve my game when I was younger and had great encouragement from Keith Alexander my manager at the time. This new academy will offer the same high quality coaching, support and mentoring as I received back then. In addition I have also returned to education more recently and completed a Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching at Central so I know from experience that a good education can aid football performance. I wish I had got the sports science knowledge I now have when I was playing full-time because it would have been very beneficial.”
