Exciting appointment made at United…

Basford United owner Chris Munroe is delighted to announce the appointment of Jamie Brough as Chairman of the football club and Director of Basford United Limited.

Owner Chris Munroe said: “I am delighted to confirm today that Jamie is our new 1st team Chairman and working closely with myself as continued owner of Basford United FC, we will plot the future of the whole football club – 1st team, Educational Academy and Basford United CFC section.

“We are delighted to have secured the services of Jamie to the football club. Jamie - and the work he has done at Sports Gateway - has been on our radar for a number of years, and the synergies and enhancements we can make to not only our Educational Academy, but our 1st team and entire club excites me and this is the obvious next step for the club.

“2021/22 was nothing short of a disaster for our 1st team and this will not happen again, and we will quickly get back on plan targeting progression to the National League North.

“The reputation of both Jamie and Sports Gateway is outstanding and it seems no matter who we talk to, whether it be in football, education or business, people know and talk so positively about Sports Gateway and Jamie Brough.

“We approached Jamie nearly three months ago and from the first time I met him the passion and commitment was clear. Having now been in his company on numerous occasions I am convinced the qualities he has will be of huge benefit to Basford United - I am thrilled Jamie has joined us.”

Talking of his appointment Jamie added: “I am delighted to be joining Basford United FC.

“Like most people, I have been a long-time admirer of the development of Basford United Football Club. The work that’s been done here by the Munroe family is outstanding and I’m excited to be part of the Basford United project.

“There had been conversations with two other clubs over the last few months, however neither quite felt right. When the approach came from Chris, it became apparent very quickly what an outstanding opportunity it was to become Basford United Chairman and Director.

“The Sports Gateway organisation will continue as is and will remain in Hucknall, and my time will be spent within both organisations. It is clear that there are ways in which the two can support each other, however, and we’ll explore these in due course.

“I’ve spent the last couple of weeks meeting the great staff and familiarising myself with the club. The facility is first class - probably the best in the East Midlands. We have some incredible partners, a great youth set up and academy, and with the new clubhouse due to be completed in the next few months, it really is impressive club with exciting times ahead.

“When I sat back and looked at the opportunity it was simply too good to turn down. I would like to thank Chris and Jo for the opportunity, and I very much look forward to working with, and supporting, all those within the club.”

Everyone at Basford United would like to welcome Jamie to the club!
