Club announce that Steve Chettle will head up the Educational Academy as Liam Hearn leaves his Academy role for Mansfield Town FC.

Basford are delighted to report that our newly appointed 1st team manager Steve Chettle will also assume the position of Head of Football Educational Academy in addition to Steve’s primary role as Basford United 1st team manager. Steve was very keen to have an active Coaching involvement with the elite Academy program, so this role becomes identical to the role previously occupied by Martin Carruthers until his release in Mar 2019. Basford Chairman Chris Munroe feels at this time this dual role is perfect for the Club philosophy of integrating promising U16s-U19s standouts with 1st team opportunities. Munroe though remains totally clear though that when the 1st team progresses to the National League then at this stage the two roles will be separated.

Steve Chettle has a wealth of experience in managing such age groups & obviously most recently was 1st coach at Notts County, with additional responsibilities managing Notts County U23s. Previous before this Steve was at the figurehead of the excellent Educational Academies at Nuneaton Borough FC & previously before that Ilkeston Town.
Steve oversaw the progression of such players from the Ilkeston Academy such as Che Adams – now Birmingham City, Ashley Hunter- Fleetwood to name but a few as well as vast that went onto the high level Non-League game.

With the club keen to develop the vast potential within our Academy section, then having Steve involved at an Academy level nurturing our elite is an excellent scenario.

However It is with regret for Basford United Football Educational Academy that Liam Hearn has decided to take up a full time Academy coaching role at Mansfield Town FC, & so relinquishes his Academy Full time role from immediate. Liam did an excellent job with our Academy during 2018-19, with the Elite group reaching the National League Cup Final but suffering penalty heartbreak in the loss to South Shields Academy.

Liam though remains very integral to Basford United & remains as Steve’s Number 2 at Basford & 1st team head coach alongside Dom Roma & Michael Leslie. Liam also remains a very important player in Steve’s 2019-20 squad.
Our club philosophy of promoting progression totally stands for managers/Players/Scholars and so we wish Liam all the very best in his new role.

With Basford also sending Kole Lambert to Premier Division Norwich City in 2018-19 & numerous to overseas Scholarships or progression to Basford United 1st team, then this emphasis’s this is the right academy to tailor the needs and project the future path of our talented youngsters.

The academy has been overwhelmed with applications from prospective students, and with the 2019-20 academic year fast approaching we have selected candidates who we feel will represent Basford United FC in a positive way.

At the academy we will have four UEFA qualified coaches three of which have played football professionally. Our state-of-the-art facility boasts grass pitches, a UEFA standard 4G pitch, a gym and high quality classrooms on campus, rivalling any other educational academy of its kind.
We have recently teamed up with the Princes Trust, which is a Coach Core Organization. This means that the academy is now able to offer apprenticeships to deserving students who have completed their education.
The academy is unique in that we allow our students the opportunity to represent Basford United FC at first team level in the Evo Stik Premier. Last season we handed six paid debuts to our academy students. The club is also able to offer paid roles around the club on match days and evenings throughout the week for the students that demonstrate the right application in the complete program.

All of the rewards and extra incentives will be based on hard work and application during your time at our academy. The pathway has been developed to allow players the opportunity to reach their full potential and in return we expect our students to show commitment, dedication and a desire to learn.

Whilst writing we would like to take the opportunity to advise how delighted we are to be partnering up with SCL Educational Partner. This organization is the leader in delivering high class Education to put our scholars on the career path.

Additionally this academic year we are introducing a specialized Year 3 1 year Gym Qualification Program. For 2020/21 this converts into a HND 3 year program.
