Basford United lined up for their second game in three days with manager Daz Saunders warning there would be no let up in effort despite the club already being confirmed as league champions with two games to go.
On a pitch made slippery by the incessant rain, the team responded by taking the game to Calverton and Cashel Walters opened the scoring after 12 minutes with a low shot from the edge of the area. It was 2-0 in the 26th minute. A Courtney Hastings run created problems for the defence and when the ball came to Walters he cut in from the right to score, keeper James Wright getting a hand to the shot but being unable to keep it out.
Hastings got on to the scoresheet himself two minutes later, running on to Darren Garmston's flick to chip the ball over Wright as he came out. Basford were well on top, but Gary Willows made a fine tackle to stop Alex Clarson as Calverton pressed.
Five minutes from the break, Hastings cleverly created space but shot over, but just before half time, Garmston made it four, following up to score after his shot was blocked by Wright.

Arran Hooton replaced Walters at the start of the second half and took just five minutes to make his mark, scoring with a deft chip after Hastings and Carl Westcarr had combined to send him clear. Carl Westcarr made it 6-0 eight minutes later, getting in behind the defence to score from close range.
As the rain became heavier, surface water appeared on the saturated pitch and players were having difficulty staying on their feet. In the 71st minute Hooton headed narrowly over from a Garmston cross, then Calverton broke away to create their best chance of the night, sub Rhys Davis rounding Andy Fretwell. However, his shot flew across goal.
With twelve minutes remaining, a fine Basford move instigated by Willows involving Hastings saw Carl Westcarr's shot blocked by Davis at the expense of a corner. Garmston took the kick short, to Richard Harrison and when the ball came back to him Garmston curled over a cross that Hastings rose magnificently to head home.
Five minutes from time, Hastings completed his hat trick, taking a pass from Carl Westcarr then showing delightful skill to outwit three defenders and score with a well placed lob.
