Basford Goalkeeper Saul Deeney to miss large chunk of New Season

Difficult news has come through for Basford United as 'keeper Deeney (pictured above) is dealt with a long-term injury blow.

Both Saul Deeney and the club we’re dealt the tough news that was half-feared after the 'keeper missed the last month of the season through a back problem.

After considerable Physiotherapy struggled to make improvement, a scan has revealed a structural disc problem that will only be cured with substantial long term rest and recuperation.

With Saul Deeney voted the premier Evo-Stik South Division Goalkeeper for 2017-18 then its a big loss for United but Basford has been very proactive in addressing this and will hope to make an announcement shortly.

As fans will remember, Basford went with youngsters Colin Lewis and Jake Wood, ages 16 and 20 respectively, for a considerable amount of time at the back end of last season which also included the latter stages of the Integro league cup and Notts Senior Cup. Both Colin & Jake products of Basford Football Academy have done brilliantly in their progress and the club is confident they have bright futures in the game. However, given the significance of the Goal keeper position the club will need to recruit a top quality addition.

Basford United Chairman Chris Munroe stated; 'Saul is a very special person and has given us fantastic service. As the injury could affect his full time job we will be there for him in his time of need. We will talk to him as soon as he returns with the other players this week about likely other temporary positions within the club.

Everyone at the club wishes Saul the very best with his recovery.
