No disgrace for Basford in this one, the management team rightly elected to make wholesale changes to give fringe and returning players good game time, so 7 changes to Saturdays starting 11 v Tadcaster. This should have been 8 changes but the returning Darren Garmston was prevented from making his 1st start of the campaign pulling up in the pre game warm up replaced by Fabian Smith. The lads who came in did a great job for the club and went in front with a fine move instigated by the impressive debutee Mark Brooks, who put over a fine cross for Theo Smith to bury a good near post header. Blair Anderson who had an excellent game was inches away from increasing the lead after charging down Brighouse keeper Jacob Giles clearance. The visitors though are a class act and Uniteds other debutant keeper Scott Miles pulled off two fine saves in the 1st period. The keeper was not helped though as a defensive error led to the Brighouse leveller on 34 minutes. A routine long ball was,nt dealt with and Leonard cooly rounded Miles to level at 1-1, disspointing blow to loose Brooks at half time to a recurring knee problem.
2nd period little to choose between the sides and it looked destined for the extra period until another very sloppy goal conceded gifted the visitors the intiative on 79 minutes. With good chances to clear our lines from the back this did,nt happen, and Brighouse striker Jagger could probably not beleive his good fortuneas he intercepted the ball on the edge of our box and slammed past the helpless Miles for 2-1. United never gave up and manager Martin Carruthers header from close range went just the wrong side of the upright. Entering the last few minutes and United applying the pressure a rapid break on the counter was converted by Hall on 87 min to seal the tie for the visitors.
No complaints from United as Brighouse fielded a stronger unit than us given there 1st 11 game Sat was called off. United move forward with a home game Sat v Nostell MW at Greenwich Avenue 3pm ko.
