Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One South
Basford United 3 Lincoln United 2
Liam Hearn’s penalty three minutes from time put the seal on our memorable day of celebration as we collected the Evo Stik NPL League championship trophy.
On a glorious day weather wise & a appreciative crowd in high spirits then the day & result could not have gone any better.
VIDEO OF THE GAME PLUS BRIEF HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PRESENTATION CAN BE SEEN AT THE FOLLOWING LINK https://youtu.be/4xNEUN-R684
Lincoln started brightly and went close on 20 minutes when James Blundell deflected a corner onto the bar. United young keeper Colin Lewis also made 1 fine low save as the visitors set about the task at hand.
Basford showed true champion quality and went in front on 32 minutes, Deon Miekle volleying in from close range at the back post after a deep cross from Rob Duffy.
Liam Hearn’s 36th goal of the season put Basford two up after 65 minutes as he was in the right place to place home from Cory Grantham's well placed cross. Lincoln Though vying for a playoff spot in the end of season show, tried to play party pooper & clawed themselves back into the game at 2-2 via Jack Wightwick on 69 mins & 82 min through a fine strike from Matt Cotton. Sandwiched in between Basford were reduced to ten when Courey Grantham received his second yellow card in the 75th minute for a foul on Lincoln keeper Michael Emery.
The script was always set though and it was only fitting the South Divisions top scorer Liam Hearn would net the winner from the penalty spot on 87 minutes after a penalty won by the impressive Matt Thornhill. The goal to sealed the win and ensured an unbeaten home league campaign for Basford United this season.
So the stage was set for fitting Trophy celebration and post game celebration shared by all players/officials & supporters alike, & some great photos/moments and memories.
Basford United would like to thank all those who have supported us this campaign & your support has been a pleasure and we have made some great friends & colleagues. Based on membership and early season ticket applications signs are season tickets will double or even treble on this season. This is testimony to a close knit Community club who feel well placed to face the future with excitement.
Its hard to believe the level of top Non-League clubs who will be visiting Greenwich Avenue next season & this now is likely to include Gainsborough Trinity who were relegated from the Conference North yesterday.
So 2 games remain plus a cup final on the 9th May, and for next Saturday we are taking an 83 seater to Chasetown for the last game of a memorable 2018-19 season and anyone wishing to join us drop us an enquiry. Cost is £5 return & no doubt either on the coach or on the pitch it will be great entertainment.
