Basford had to dig deep for this win against very good opposition.
With Saul Deeney out due to a hand injury, Jake Wood was in goal and he soon was in action, saving a fierce shot from Stan Magushi.
As the play flowed from end to end Basford took the lead on 25 minutes. Corey Grantham's header came back off the bar and Rob Darkin blasted in.
Chasetown came back strongly but were kept out out by some very good and well organised defending.
Basford had to withstand a severe examination of their defence in the second half which they passed with flying colours, Wood saving well from Magushi and Richard Davies. At the other end Grantham was causing problems and he was denied by keeper John Bateman.
The Basford crossbar was rattled by Ryan Winter's header, but nine minutes from time the second goal settled the game. Kyle Dixon broke down the left and cut inside, Bateman made a good save from his shot, but the following up Ruben Wiggins-Thomas made no mistake from the rebound.
Grantham was unlucky not to be on the scoresheet but found Bateman in good form as he again saved.
Both teams received a standing ovation at the end for what was generally agreed to be a great display of football, well played and controlled by the match officials.
