Having already seen off strong competition from Grimsby Town and Nuneaton Town in previous rounds of this competition, United now find themselves at the semi-final stage against the League One club’s academy side and there’s no doubt our boys will be itching to get out there and show what they can do, despite being the big underdogs on paper.
Of course this isn’t the first time our educational academy team has faced a side from Football League club this season, having already given a fantastic account of themselves when they travelled to face Accrington Stanley in a recent FA Youth Cup First Round tie. The first time United have reached that stage of the competition in their history, having battled their way through four tough qualifying rounds along the way.
Also, having been crowned Conference Youth Alliance champions last season, Basford are currently unbeaten so far in the current campaign and sitting just below our local rivals Mansfield Town, with two games in hand. Promising striker Harry Wakefield currently sits joint-top of the league goalscoring charts, with five goals in five games.
So make sure you are at Greenwich Avenue (NG6 0LD) on Monday night to cheer on the boys and support the future of the club.
Kick-off at Greenwich Avenue is at 7.45pm and admission is £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.
