Basford United are delighted to announce the signing of ex-professional footballer Alex Howes following his departure from Notts County.

Howes, made his professional debut as a 16-year old for Notts when they were in League Two and has been training at the club in recent weeks, signs on a two year deal with the option for a third year. And came onto the club’s raider when he scored for Kevin Nolan’s Notts side against Basford in a friendly back in the 2017/18.

He then spent time at Coalville at Step Three and impressed throughout his spell there.

He is a player that manager Steve Chettle knows very well and is excited about the impact the 20-year old will have in his time at Greenwich Avenue, believing it demonstrates the pull of the club to sign a player with ambition to reach the football league again.

Chettle said: “I’m delighted that Alex has decided to join Basford United, as he has been a great talent for some time.

“He broke into Notts County first team squad when they were in the EFL and he was only 16. He was in the U23's when I was at Notts as the first team coach, but had a tough year with a hamstring injury that delayed his progress.

“Being here now with us will help both us and Alex to rediscover his massive potential and we can get the best out of each other.”

He is likely to make his Basford debut in today’s friendly against Kimberly Miners Welfare.

The club would also like to reiterate that due to FA and Government guidelines all pre-season fixtures will be played behind closed doors.

There will be live commentary on Mixlr and text updates via Twitter.
