Basford United Community lost their 100% record in Notts Senior League Division One with that rarest of results for the normally free scoring team – a goalless draw at home to AFC Bridgford.
Having twice watched the opposition team management felt the side had enough to keep the run going. There were a few changes to the squad having lost skipper Kelvin Uhunmwhango and Reece Allen (both off to university) and Dominic Baker with a slight knock giving others the chance to come into the squad. Shaun Turner (returning from suspension) & the experienced Kofi Hellewell (back from injury) Chanju Mpande (work commitments) all came into the starting eleven.
The game panned out exactly as planned with the Basford side stretching the pitch and getting at the opposition down both channels, in the first half alone they created enough clear cut chances to go In at the break 6 or 7 up.
During the break, although frustrated, the team was encouraged to stick to the game plan, taking from the positives creating the chances and getting Into scoring opportunities. But the experience showed of the Bridgford team who sat back deeper and deeper as the game went on.
Coach Graham Furnell said: “Having started the season the way we have scoring freely I felt if we were still playing now we wouldn't find the goal our build up play deserved. On reflection we take the positives out of this game we kept our seconnd clean sheet of the season.
“This young squad who for most of them is their first taste of senior football, so we know there will be off days along the way. Although we lost our 100% start to the season we still remain unbeaten which is credit to the lads

Don’t concede early in the 2nd half, we did, another header hitting the net.
The game turned as Yusuf Hall unsettled Stratford, the boys getting on top and Stratford not liking it. Ryan Bache and Ben Eames linked up well, Ben shooting narrowly wide. Sadly, this woke Stratford as they broke for a 4th.
Zach Brindley was causing problems and Billy Jones was having a great battle at right back. Finally, the Basford goal came, Zach lashing in the rebound from his saved penalty.
Showing great heart, these boys will bounce back stronger.
