We suffered our second defeat of the season as we lost 2-0 away to Witton Albion.

Both goals came in the opening 10 minutes as Lewis Carr put the ball into his own net. Steve McNulty then turned in a corner. We pushed forward after that but were unable to find a way back into the game despite some good pressure.

Steve Chettle named two changes from the side that drew 2-2 last time out. Alex Howes and Dom Roma were named as starters with James Tague and James Clifton dropping out of the side.

We started well but were quickly behind as Carr’s header back to Kieran Preston looped over the ‘keeper and despite his best efforts it nestled into the bottom corner of the net. It was soon 2-0 to the hosts. Preston did well to keep out Regan Griffiths’ effort but McNulty was there to put in the resulting corner from close range.

Just after the 20-minute mark we had our best chances of the game. Kane Richards did well to create some space to force Chris Renshaw into a good stop before Ryan Wilson saw a long-range effort held by the Witton number one.
Howes then looked to start and finish a fine counter attack but his long-range effort was held again by Renshaw.

We then had a penalty shout late in the half as Kyle Dixon was looking to stab the ball home but nothing was given despite the midfielder being taken down from behind as we remained 2-0 down at the break.

The start of the second half saw us win a corner that was almost turned in by Carr at the back post. Up the other end the defender threw himself at a shot to send it for a corner as Witton looked to extend their lead.

A succession of corners looked to provide us with a way back into the game but the home side managed to hold strong. The game then hit a period where we dominated possession but could not test Renshaw with Wayde Hines coming the closest with a good effort.
Stef Galinski then saw an effort deflected wide of the post after a good knock down by Hines.

Preston then pulled off two good saved in quick succession before we were back on the front foot. Richards saw an effort blocked after several crosses were headed clear. Late on Ryan Wilson had a cross turned shot pushed away by Renshaw as we went home empty handed.

Starting XI: 1-Preston, 2- Roma, 3- Wilson, 4- Thornhill, 5- Galinski, 6- Carr, 7- Richards,
8- Chettle, 9- James (Towle), 10- Dixon (Hines), 11- Howes (Carvell)
