We picked up a well-earned point with a 2-2 draw at Matlock Town.

An own goal from Sam Egerton had put us ahead before Reece Kendall pulled the hosts level at the break.

Matt Thornhill gave us the lead midway through the second half but again we were pegged back again through Liam Hughes as the game ended level.

We settled the quicker of the two sides but failed to make our early pressure count as Matlock almost took the lead. Kieran Preston did well to keep out Liam Hughes’ close range header. From the resulting corner our number one pulled off another good stop before James Clifton threw himself at Osebi Abadaki’s long rang effort.

A couple of corners caused us some trouble with the ball being dropped on top of Preston, but he was equal to the first with a good punch, before being fouled from the second.

It was then our turn to cause some issues. Kane Richards got to the by-line and his cross was pushed away by Shaun Rowley. The Matlock ‘keeper was then awake to deny Thornhill’s acrobatic effort.

Our spell of pressure was rewarded with just over five minutes left in the half. Richards’ drilled ball across the box hit the leg of Egerton and nestled in the bottom corner of the net.
That looked to give us the lead but Kendall headed home in the dying moments to level the game at the break.

Matlock started the second half on the front foot and their quick start was almost rewarded. A corner into the box came to Kendall and his volley looked destined for the back of the net but Ryan Wilson had done well to get back and clear it off the line. They then had the ball in the net as Liam Hughes headed home but it was quickly ruled out for a foul on Preston.

We then had a rare attack into the Matlock half and we made Matlock pay for their missed chances. Wilson whipped in a free-kick to the back post and Thornhill put us into the lead. It was short lived though as Hughes headed in from a corner after Preston had pulled off a fingertip save.

We then regrouped and went again with some good pressure. Substitute Niall Towle went through but could not get his shot away as the clock ticked down on the 2-2 draw.

Starting XI: 1- Preston, 2- Clifton (Gatter), 3- Wilson, 4- Thornhill, 5- Galinski, 6- Carr,
7- Richards (Towle), 8- Chettle, 9- James, 10- Dixon, 11- Tague (Howes)
