A decent point at second-placed Rylands...

PIC: MARK PERCY

A late goal from Adama Sidibeh cancelled out Remaye Campbell’s opener as United shared the spoils with Warrington Rylands on Saturday afternoon.

Campbell’s superb header mid-way through the second half looked like Basford would head back to Nottingham with maximum points, but Sidibeh struck the equaliser five minutes from time.

As early as the first minute, Javid Swaby-Neavin, up from full-back, tested the reflexes of Kieran Preston who saved well down to his right before the ‘keeper’s agility kept out another stinging strike, this time from Sidibeh.

Ben Hardcastle then fired well wide from range, which preceded a duo of early cautions as both Kieran Fenton and Djavan Pedro were booked for a rash tackle and kicking the ball away respectively.

Rylands always looked lively going forward and a ball in behind allowed Ben Hardcastle to cross low but fantastic reactions from Mason Frizelle saw him hack off the line with Preston floored.

The first United chance came shortly before the half hour when youngster Tyler Dacres – making his first start since returning on loan from Radford – slashed wide on the half-volley.

And Frizelle was unlucky not to open the scoring when his looped header – kept alive by Kieran Fenton at the back stick – lacked the power to hook over the rooted Luke Pilling.

Dacres then had another fine chance to put United in front as the game entered first half stoppage time, but he lacked the composure to trouble Pilling at his near post, despite excellent build-up play involving Dom Roma, Jordan Hallam and Campbell.

The impetus remained with the visitors into the second half and both Campbell and Hallam had chances to put United ahead inside four minutes of the restart; the former was inches away from poking a low cross beyond Pilling moments after Hallam’s awkward shot was claimed at the second attempt.

Dacres again found himself in behind – benefiting from a slip – but Pilling reacted well to deny the shot, though it wasn’t long before United’s strong start yielded the opener.

Toby Ritzema kept the ball alive down the right and, despite an overhit cross, a superb return delivery from Hallam was met emphatically by Campbell who rose highest to plant a header into the bottom corner.

And all the stoic defensive work looked all the while to be rewarded with a fine win on the road, but Rylands capitalised on a loose ball inside and Sidibeh did the rest when he latched onto a through ball to fire beyond Preston at his near post to snatch a point.

Next up, we welcome Whitby Town to Greenwich Avenue on Saturday (3pm).
